News 24 is the BBC 24 hour news coveridge station availble on cable and satellite, it is the news channel that I'm most likely to switch to and I prefer it to the rival Sky News Channel mainly becaus ethere is a certain amount of trust built up by the BBC in its news coveridge and I'm less confident of a Murdoch owned station being quite so independant.

One of the strengths of the channel is in the quality of its newscasters and in particular Louise Minchin and Jon Sopel are two of the best, they both have a good on screen prescence and are very competent in their jobs. I tend to watch in short bursts rather than extended periods although sometimes I will have it on in the background as well.

The first fifteen minutes of each hour are taken up by the main headlines and any breaking stories however if anything big breaks at any time they will immediately cut to this story utilising the many domestic and foreign correspondents at their disposal.

Sport is also covered as well as political news, business updates and of course weather reports although these days the weather seems to be making the news most of the time. Ifind that because it is a 24 hour station they are able to devote enough time to each item without being rushed and they are quite innovative in the way they deliver the news.

There is some repetition of reports which is one of the reasons why I duck in and out of the chanel but if you are looking for a quality news broadcast then News 24 is the place to go. We are with NTL (now Virgin) and it is on channel 601 on our set top box.
