Not As Good As Sky News (BBC News 24)

Advantages: Interesting sometimes

Disadvantages: Too many politics stories; Too many repeats of boring stories

My dad watches this a lot because he likes to know what's going on in the news and him and my mum gave up buying magazines and newspapers for their new year resolution because they were spending too much money every week on them.

I quite like it but prefer it when he puts Sky News on because the news is better and not all about politics like BBC News is. They are fast when it comes to breaking news but don't go into very much depth for stories that aren't about the prime minister which gets a bit boring when you want to see some lighter news. When the expenses row was going on it was constantly 24 hours of repeats about the same with over and over again.

Even yesterday when Sky News was full of Patrick Swayze and Keith Floyd dying the BBC hardly mentioned it because they were too busy repeating themselves about the fact that Gordon Brown was making his cuts! That was important news but we didn't need to keep hearing the same snippet of commentary about it all day.

It's the same when soldiers are killed in Afganistan or Iraq, Sky News will talk about them in some depth whereas the BBC just announces it and goes off to something that could have waited. I reckon that's the problem with it being a 24 hour news channel and they have so much time to fill that they have decided to concentrate on the dull world of politics to show how clever they are at filling their time.

The newsreaders are all nice with some older ones and some young. There's none I could name but I know all the faces and enjoy listening to most of them, the only one I don't like much and the one I can came thinking about it is Hugh Edwards because he has such a boring voice that I don't want to listen to what he's saying.

If you've got Virgin Media it's on channel 601 and is worth putting on to see what's going on but then flick through to 602 and watch Sky News for the news that is more exciting and doesn't just talk about politics and statistics all the time.
