What is the BBC world service all about. I travel to many parts of the world as part of my job, (not glamorous like Judith Chalmers etc.)
I would love to be able to hear of news/events at home occasionally.
Wherever I happen to be I can usually receive the BBC world service, either by radio (short wave long distance or locally). Or nowadays by TV.
For reasons I cannot fathom, the BBC is obsessed with all things Asia, i.e. business reports, markets or any matters. This Asian content seems to dominate if I am on the opposite side of the globe from there.
I could say the news repeats itself to much, but bearing in mind time differences across the globe I can understand that.
The content of the news is the most disappointing thing though. A major story can sometimes take the whole news half hour, only to be repeated again and again.
Ex-pats don't get a look in about anything going on in he UK. A UK news round occasionally would not be too much to ask.
They put on programmes like "top gear" now and then and the "hard talk" shows are quite good. Thumbs down to the patronising "Click online" which pays a lip service to the computing world. Even this always appears to be biased to the Asian sector.
I will say that the weather reporting service is good on a global level, giving a wider coverage.
On TV the teletext service is a little helpful, but could do better in terms of UK content i.e. the lottery results can take days to update. Football results seem confined to the major events.
BBC, I think try to emulate CNN, but it does not come off. At least CNN keep you informed of things Europe if your in Europe for example.

Summary:
