Advantages: good bargains to be found - unusual way to shop
Disadvantages: ordering by phone expensive/min delivery charge £7.99
I like this channel as it's not only entertaining to watch but there are also great bargains to be had if you are lucky.
It's part of the Virgin group so has lasted much longer than several other auction channels & there are 2 sister channels - price-drop & speedauction
The presenters are very smartly dressed & are usually entertaining whilst trying to make us buy their vast array of goods. I know that I couldn't do their job as there's only so much you can say about a product isn't there?
My favourite presenter is Peter Simon - he is a really gifted comedian ( reminds me very much of Les Dawson ).
The quantities are usually quite high - eg 300 lots of eco-friendly washballs & it's quite amazing to see the quantities go down so quickly at peak viewing times - 5 minutes & they're gone - I wonder how long it would take to sell this amount in the shops?
The products on auction vary enormously - to give you an idea ~
jewellery
clothing
electrical items
mobiles, tvs, sat navs etc
boxed sets of dvds
cutlery & crockery
handbags
household items
perfumes & aftershaves
safes
lawnmowers & garden lights
bedding
towels
suitcases
plus much more!
At the moment they are running a christmas shop which means earlybird shoppers can get hold of presents, decorations, tableware, trees etc before the prices will inevitably increase nearer to December
They also do some fundraising for charity - recently a percentage of each item sold was given to Marie Curie Cancer Care - brilliant idea
I have found the standard of their products to be very high & their delivery has been within 2-3 days (they advise 'within 7 working days') so I bought a few Christmas presents last year without worrying if they'd arrive on time.
I have bought some great stuff from bid tv over the years including ~
egyptian cotton sheets & pillowcases - £9
bale of good thick towels - £10
anthony worrell baking tin set - £8
little miss pyjama set - £7
crystal vases - £4
boxed set of classic comedy dvds - £5
plus more!
The BEST thing that bid-tv & price-drop do, in my opinion, are the megadrops - these are days & evenings when anything can drop to £1!!
I've been very lucky here & managed to grab ~
- a full dinner set - £1 (lovely bone china with a gold design)
- a viners set of cutlery - £1
- Tommy & Kate leather weekend bag - £1
- solar garden lights - £1
- set of fantastic heavy saucepans - £1
missed out on a lot of great stuff though (bikes, tvs, dvds, mobiles etc) but you can't have everything can you?!
You can view & bid/ buy online - www.bid-tv.tv
they always send emails to confirm your purchase & advise when item dispatched
WARNINGS ~
- it costs £1.50 to order from a BT phoneline (sometimes there's no time to secure your purchase online)
- minimum p&p is £7.99 & there's no postage discount
- you can't multi-buy
- there's a 10 day money-back-guarantee but you have to phone to get a reference no which may mean holding on for some time (lickily I've only had to do this once)
summary
~
- great bargains to be had if you are careful - I've checked items online or in catalogues to find RRP & I've always saved a fair amount
- easy to order
- entertaining channel
- can sometimes find items not readily available in shops
- worth a look?
Summary: well worth a look

- 11/10/08 The postage price and the phone calls price totally puts me off buying like this. Sounds like you got some bargains though! Caroline xx |
