Advantages: Freedom to watch what you want, when you want.
Disadvantages: Not for everyone.
BT Vision is a digital television service launced by BT in 2007. It is exclusive to BT Broadband customers.
At the heart of the BT Vision product is the "V-Box", a combination of a Freeview box and a digital television recorder. The V-Box is similar to a "Sky Plus" box in many ways, it allows you to pause and rewind live TV, and record two different channels at once. It has twice the storage of a Sky Plus box, allowing you to record up to 80 hours of TV.
The Freeview content on BT Vision is recieved via your existing TV ariel, and is of course free of charge. The main feature of BT vision is the premium content, which is delivered to the V-Box via your broadband connection. BT offers a wide variety of content, including sport, films, and tv series on an on demand basis. You decide what to watch, and when to watch it. No more waiting for your favourite program!
You do need a BT line and BT broadband in order to have BT Vision, and this limits the number of people who can actually recieve the service. Also the BT broadband speed needs to be at least 2mb as well apparently for the product to work.
Whilst there is a good variety of content on BT Vision, and you can use it strictly "on demand" to avoid being tied into long contracts, the fact that it is limited to BT customers with a fast BB connection means that Sky won't be losing any sleep just yet!
Summary: Good value digital tv for BT customers.
