Advantages: Great combo of cartoons, funny links

Disadvantages: Suitability for younger viewers

As our son has aged, bit by bit, to his now ripe age of 5, we have noticed a shift in the favourability of various TV channels. He has now moved firmly away from the Playhouse Disney, in terms of choice, and his favourite channel is by far and away Cartoon Network.

The main reason for this is the latest craze to take the cartoon world by storm, and that is Ben 10. Today, he's plonked in front of the TV, excited because it's a marathon of Ben 10 episodes, literally all day. Naturally, we won't be letting him watch TV non stop, but it is a bit of a treat, so it's okay for a while.

They also have cartoons such as Chowder, which is a bit strange, and Johnny Test, which is even stranger. Occasionally, you get a cartoion such as the Fantastic Four or other Marvel creations rear their heads and give us half and hour of fun. I particularly like this, as I'm a big fan of things Marvel!

Most of the time, the programmes are half an hour long, and are probably suitable for ages 5 and upwards. Most of the cartoons would probably appeal to older kids as well as the younger ones, although it's important to note that there are some cartoons you probably wouldn't want your really young kids watching.

The ads are geared completely towards kids, and I have lost count of the times that Will has called me in frantically from the kitchen to show me the latest gadget they're advertising - the big, expensive ones, of course!

Their icons for the beginnings of the shows are also quite clever, the CN (Cartoon Network) characters performing little routines before forming the CN logo that you see at the top here in various ways. My favourite is this guy with an afro who is getting shot at. He ducks a bit too late and the buckshot makes the CN logo in his hair. Really funny.

Overall, it's a good channel for kids to watch at any time. The variety of cartoons is quite good, and they're suitable, as I said from about 5 upwards, I reckon. It's on Sky channel 601, and is a TV channel I recommend.
