Advantages: twenty four hours, just cartoons, old favourites to watch
Disadvantages: far too many adverts, bad timing, some not so good shows
This morning I spent it mostly watching cartoon network. I considered it as a small test, soon I’ll be leaving my job so I guess I will have free time to get brainwashed by our TV channels. But to be fair I have always watched cartoon network, and the main reason that originally got cable was because of MTV and cartoon network. I have always been a cartoonholic and I admit it I am a Tom and Jerry fanatic. I’m the sad kind who will watch their marathons on New Year’s and August Bank Holiday days from end to beginning (I know so sad…). I am kinda old so obviously I enjoy all the oldies, Tom and Jerry, Sylvester and Tweetie, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Dack, Pink Panther, Donald and Mickey although they are from another channel… I understand that kids (like everybody else) want to watch new characters, more modern cartoons and I do accept the fact that the cartoon network tries to please as many ages as possible…But then again.. Some of these cartoons I do believe they are a little bit too much. I understand and enjoy Cow and Chicken, Johnny Bravo, Dexter’s Laboratory, The Power Puff Girls, even Angela Anaconda (kinda weird for my tastethough) but the newest shows are just terrible…Sheep in the city? Toonheads? , etc… But the worst part is the adverts…almost every five minutes, adverts about everything which they are repeating them over and over again in a day…What I don’t understand is why they are showing adverts about credit cards, loans, debts consolidation, accidents claims to a children’s channelthe ? What do they expect to achieve? From kids to ask their parents for a small loan or a visa card for Christmas present? It’s bad enough to have to watch a thousand and one adverts about different Barbies every five minutes let alone the ones that explain to a five year old kid how easy is to apply for a loan .. The other ba
d thing about cartoon network is the timing of the programs, they never start on time (always earlier) and they always seem to finish about ten minutes earlier so there is plenty of time for adverts…So half an hour Tom and Jerry between six and six thirty is actually 10 minutes of the program, the rest is just repetition of the previous program (adverts)… Overall is good to have a channel dedicated to cartoons as it shows the oldies along with the new stuff but parents should be warned about their kids being brainwashed during those long advert breaks…
