Advantages: The wide range both fun and educational programme's

Disadvantages: It seems to be all kids want to watch

When the BBC went digital quite some years back, they brought out a channel dedicated to babies, toddlers, and younger children, aimed for 6 years and under.
Launched back in February 2002, it has become widely popular with children.
The channel air's from 6.00am every morning to 7.00pm every night.
Their is four main presenters who do different slots during the day, most of them pre-recorded, they are
Pui Fan Lee
Chris Jarvis
Sidney Sloane
Andy Day.
Cbeebies offer a wide range of programme's, both fun and educational.
Teletubbies, Tweenie's, Balamory, Bob the Builder, Bill and Ben, Andy pandy, Brum- to name but a few.
Their aim is to encourage learning through play, and certain programme's do just that, i will give you a few examples of differents shows and how they educate.
~Big cook, little cook~
This show is all about learning to cook, they teach you about different foods, what they are, where they come from, how to eat them, All the recipes featured, are supposed promote healthy eating, This is a fun way for your child to get to know food's a bit better and also i they are fussy eaters may encorage them to eat more!.
~Carries and David's popshop~
This is a musical programme, and they show your children how to put a song together - the words, the tune, the instruments,the harmonies, and what it all means, they then sing the song.
This helps children's ability to recognize and learn different sounds, and proves to be a big hit with all children.

~Fun with phonics~ Through a mixture of lively, colourful and entertaining sequences, Fun with Phonics introduces its very young audience to the forty two most common sounds that provide a foundation to literacy.They can also extend vocabulary and increase familiarity with each sound, through stories, poems, games and documentary inserts

~Nina and the neurones~ Is a scientific show and provides a fun way to learn about every day science and experiments, Nina is a scientist and does different experiments with children, their main aim is to familiarize children with the five senses and how we use them.

~Numberjacks~ This show teach's children all about different numbers and easy mathematical sum's , and encourage children to look for shapes and numbers around the home, it is aimed for 3-5 year olds, but younger children watching can easily pick up on numbers they hear.

I have only given you a small amount of examples as to what Cbeebies have to offer, but im sure you can see how they try to reach out to children of all ages and backgrounds. Each show is different in it's own way, and make learning fun.

My two daughter watch Cbeebies but not all day, i chose a mixture of programme's which are educational and fun, as i think a healthy balence of both, promotes learning. 'In the night garden proves to be a big hit with my two' and i find it calms them down before bedtime. If they had a choice they would sit and watch the channel all day, but of course i don't let them happen, as kids need change every so often.

Cbeebies doesn't only just appear on TV, They have brought out a weekly magazine, which has a whole range of features and activities to do with your child. A dvd which has a collection of favorite shows, and a CD with theme tunes to shows, and songs that are popular with children so they dance and sing along- great for long car journeys!
