Back in the dark old days before the internet (hard to remember those days, how did people actually cope!!) and various satellite / cable channels, people used their televisions to find out about news/weather/sport.

Teletext was a great service, and the BBC's teletext service was, and still is called 'Ceefax'. Just by keying in three numbers with your remote control you could access numerous pages of information for free, and it was bang up to date too!

Any breaking news would be covered on the 'home page' (100) and then there would be more pages listing local news and World news. You get the usual high standard of journalism that you'd expect from the BBC with Ceefax, which in my opinion makes it more credible than other teletext options on other tv channels.

I remember my husband actually used to sit and watch the latest football scores updating on ceefax whenever the radio wasn't working.

It also has up to date entertainment news, national lottery results, TV listings, provided the subtitles to certain programmes (page 888) and so much more.

The good thing about ceefax is that it is accessible to anyone with a vaguely modern television set. I know most people now-a-days have internet access, but some people don't and Ceefax can provide important information, like travel news, weather updates and cinema listings.

Another benefit of Ceefax is the fact that it's instantly accessible. You don't have to wait for a computer to load, you just hit the teletext button on your remote and you're away. Great when you are in a rush.
