Advantages: Wide ranging and updated regularly

Disadvantages: Internet could beat it in future

BBC's Ceefax service is an excellent way of keeping up to date with all the latest news and information in my opinion.

In fact I would say that the Beebs Ceefax leaves the ITV Teletext service way behind in the majority of information it supplies.
As somebody with an interest in a wide range of sports it is very noticeable how much quicker the latest scores seem to come through on Ceefax, that's if ITV have even bothered to cover the event.

With the rapid expansion of the internet it remains to be seen how much longer we will see the majority of people using their conventional television to view information. But if both the net and TV goes the way I think it will then I believe the two will merge in the fairly near future so that the BBC's Ceefax will effectively be the same as the latest internet news but without the inconvenience of powering up your computer at all hours of the day.

Somebody I work with posed this question not long ago "What would you miss more: 1/ Ceefax/Teletext or 2/ Your video recorder?". The initial reaction was the video but it says a lot for how much we have come to rely on text that some people began to have doubts.

I think Ceefax will be around for a while. The newspapers may go on and on about what percentage of the country has internet access, but there are still lots of working class people who can't afford a computer.
