Advantages: Good information

Disadvantages: looks dated

The modern marvel of the early 80's, CEEFAX and ORACLE were the text information services provided by terrestrial TV. They are still around today and look like they are using the same technology that they did then.
Whereas PC's have moved with the times, the limited colours and block graphics remain on the CEEFAX service.
It can also be very slow too, having to scroll through up to 100 pages before it finds the one you are looking for.
It is however, useful despite its primitive look.
I use it quite a bit and its normally stuck on page 307. This is the latest scores of all 2nd division football matches! This is how I follow my team when not at the games. Very useful.
Its also good when you cannot see a televised event. You get up to the minute information on scores, results and news fro around the world, 24/7.
There is a great news sevice for current affairs.
A good business section on BBC2. Normally on the 200 pages
Sport can be found on the 300 pages.
Then there is travel information, reviews, cookery ideas etc and a TV guide so you can see what programmes are coming up without a TV guide.
I think it will eventually be replace by something similar to SKY's Information button. Its modern looking and provides a much quicker service.

Skys new Text service is an improvement, but does rely for detail on a phone line rather than broadcast signal, so it can be pretty expensive
