Premium Review Ceefax: Is it 1980 still? (285 words)
by - written on 29/10/09 (Very useful, 18 readings)
Rating:

Ceefax, what an outdated weird service. The BBC has been running this information service since the 70s. Basically, it's a text that you can load up on your TV that contains information such as TV listings, competitions, puzzles and the like. Back in the day, it was on between gaps in programming, but these days it's just available at the touch ...  Read the complete review

35 years since it was first broadcast and Ceefax is still one of the best ways to get the latest news, sports and weather where you live. Yeah it may be show to load sometimes (especially if your TV doesn't have Fastext), but it's incredibly easy to get the information you desire. For me personally, this is usually the latest football ...  Read the complete review

Ceefax is a text based service provided by the BBC. It first began back in 1974, when just 30 pages were available for transmission. Over the years, this number has increased massively, and lots of information can now be found from the service. I first started using teletext and Ceefax back in the mid-eighties. In those days, there ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review GIVE me OLD-SKOOL Text ANYDAY. (223 words)

Ceefax is an information system which can be accessed by tuning to any of the BBC's analogue channels and pressing the 'text' button on the remote. The service was first 'broadcast' in 1974 when it only featured thirty pages. Nowadays it includes a wide variety of information, and still is my primary source for finding out sport ...  Read the complete review

by - written on 26/02/08 (Useful, 32 readings)

Back in the dark old days before the internet (hard to remember those days, how did people actually cope!!) and various satellite / cable channels, people used their televisions to find out about news/weather/sport. Teletext was a great service, and the BBC's teletext service was, and still is called 'Ceefax'. Just by keying in three ...  Read the complete review

Ceefax has been around for about 25 years now. However, even still, there is a high chance of being unable to access the service you want due to poor picture quality. If you have a portable TV, have been experiencing atmospherics or are unlucky enough to live in some remote parts of the country, it can often be difficult to make sense of the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Reasons to buy a Teletext TV (265 words)
by - written on 09/02/01 (Useful, 42 readings)
Rating:

Whilst teletext isn't the unique source of information it used to be 15 years ago, its still worth having on a TV. My TV can switch between using the Fast Text buttons, or having 4 different pages loaded at once. This makes it much faster to use. You can have one programmed to be the TV listings for that particular channel, ...  Read the complete review

The modern marvel of the early 80's, CEEFAX and ORACLE were the text information services provided by terrestrial TV. They are still around today and look like they are using the same technology that they did then. Whereas PC's have moved with the times, the limited colours and block graphics remain on the CEEFAX service. It can ...  Read the complete review

When Ceefax first came on stream I thought what a brilliant idea and I still think that way. O.K. it's not exactly cutting edge technology but it does serve a useful purpose. Ceefax does have some uses but not many, for example it is ok for some things like checking the cricket results or the lottery numbers, but I think that it is time ...  Read the complete review

Ceefax has been around for a few years now, this British invention is a quick and easy way to get information on a wide range of subjects. I tend to use the news and business pages, they provide up to date information 24 hours a day. There's regional news pages to give more local content. The news coverage is very good, about 20 ...  Read the complete review

BBC's Ceefax service is an excellent way of keeping up to date with all the latest news and information in my opinion. In fact I would say that the Beebs Ceefax leaves the ITV Teletext service way behind in the majority of information it supplies. As somebody with an interest in a wide range of sports it is very noticeable how ...  Read the complete review

Being an impoverished student and up until now, not having a home PC, the ceefax has been my lifeline for information for quite a few years now, as it has for my boyfriend and my family too!
