Advantages: new stuff, quality shows, innovative

Disadvantages: just a few really poor programmes

Channel 4 tries to be sophisticated and youthful, mixing successful American dramas with new home grown shows. On occasion it can take things too far with cheap tackyness (especially for their late night programmes) which they try to fob off as "different."

However, more so than other UK terrestrial channels they have real quality shows like Friends, Ally Mcbeal, Spaced and this counts for a lot. They dont rest on their laurals when it comes to programmes, unlike the others channels.
