Advantages: Improved Schedule

Disadvantages: New boring image

Let's face it; we all know that when Channel 5 began in 1997, it had nothing. It was a channel that purely relied on cheap imports, smut and painful attempts at original programmes. It wasn't long before it gained its reputation for the cheap, seedy terrestrial, which was nothing but a complete waste of time. It's a good job it has always been free, because no one would have wanted to pay for this terrible channel. In fact, people would have been more interested in paying to not have it!.

But September 2002 saw a big change in the channel. It was re-branded as "five". Ever since, its programmes have been much better quality, and the channel now actually has something to offer, and finally might be taken seriously, rather than a broadcasting joke. Hit US imports such as “Prison Break”, and decent US comedy such as “Two and a Half Men”, are just a few of many improvements of the channel. Its audience figures have increased, and after a disastrous start, the channel is finally making some progress. Well it couldn't get any worst could it?.

But, one thing the channel did have when it was “Channel 5”, was great presentation. The logo, the designs and music looked and sounded great! But back in those days, presentation was all it had, because the schedule and reputation wasn't up to much. Ever since it's re-brand as "five", the schedule has improved, but presentation wise the channel is boring and pointless. I mean, plain white 2D font of the word "five" isn't what I call a logo. And is a man doing press-ups and a woman holding a dog lead, the best they could come up with in terms of presentation? They have completely lost the plot! They might as well have given the creative job to a three year old! It would be a step closer to an imaginative design!. There latest tricks before a programmes shown sees scene's that demonstrate emotions, but these don’t even display the channel’s so-called logo! and is it really necessary to spell out the emotion there trying to show during the scene, for example a bunch of race dog’s racing round a track, do we really need them to spell out the word “fast”?, I mean we aren’t physically stupid? FIVE- We get the point! But I suppose there latest attempts are better than five's other ideas since being "five", but still are nothing special compared to the bright and colourful designs it once had. And what's happened to the news? It was credited on its new and modern way of presenting news (remember Kristy perched on a desk while telling the top stories?), but now, it seems to be more formal, with the presenter sitting down while telling the news. One and probably the only quality channel 5 ever had was it's fresh approach to news! Now it's news style is just getting too similar to other channels!.

"five’s" presentation may have gone down hill, but it has managed to shake off its smutty reputation that it once had, and its schedule now is much better. Now all it needs is a team of people that have actually got an imagination, in order to think of some interesting designs and a logo for the channel.

Summary: AT LEAST THE SCHEDULE'S BETTER!!!
