Advantages: The shows

Disadvantages: Not everyone can get it

The year was 1997, and back then, there were only 4 tv channel on our screens, but that was until Channel 5 came about. However, even though it was a new channel, not everyone in the UK are able to recieve channel five, and it doesnt even come with an cable company, so for some of you, it is unfortunate.

Over the years, one thing that I have noticed about channel five is that is broadcasts making shows that come from other countries, and it is very rare that there is a long running british show shown on this channel, after all the channels soap, family affiars got cancelled. Some of my favourite shows on this channel have to be the american show, CSI, and all of the shows that go with it, i.e New York and Miami, and course the brilliant Australian show Home and Away, you cant beat them, they are great, possibly better than some of our own soaps.


When it comes to Home and Away, it wasnt always shown on channel 5. About 7 years ago it was orginally shown on ITV 1 but switched due to contract issues. Now, both of the major Australian soaps, that along with Neighbours are shown on this channel are both bringing in huge numbers. Last year, there was an episode in which the UK had more viewers watching it than the australian viewers, which just shows how popular both the show and the channel are.


The other big show, CSI, has also been a big hit on the channel and always brings in huge numbers, I never miss an episode. All 9 seasons have been shown on the channel along with other seasons of New York and Miami. Even though this channel does have some good shows, it will never be able to go up against the likes of BBC and ITV, just becuase they have bigger shows and a better following. This could be attributed to the fact that not everyone can watch channel 5, but to me it is still one of the best.
