Discovery is very possibly the best channel in the whole wide world! It's the staple favourite of dads everywhere who don't have a university education, in their endless quest to prove to themselves they ARE intelligent!

Discovery is an American satellite channel that shows non-stop documentaries about science, technology and industry. There are lots of educational based reality-TV shows on the channel, including the brilliant Deadliest Catch. This program is typical of the channel in that it takes an interesting topic: dangerous crab fishing, and both educates and entertains you on the topic. The show basically shows you the ropes (no pun intended), whilst helping you get to know the people involved, therefore getting you drawn into the program.

Another brilliant program on this channel is 'How it's Made', which is a short show that takes you behind the scenes on how things are made. These can be anything from instruments to windows, cars, Ipods etc etc. Seeing the science behind a creation is truly amazing, and the way the show is edited and narrated is nothing short of brilliant; it makes incredibly confusing topics dead simple.

All in all, this is a very good channel. What it does so brilliantly is presents confusing and complex topics, or topics that SHOULD hold no interest, in a simple, accessible and interesting way. Because of this, you gain knowledge whilst watching it, but it entertains you too. As I hinted at in the beginning of this review, the effect of this is that it somehow makes learning cool, and helps people widen their knowledge from the comfort of their own homes,

The only down-side is that it's quite a manly channel - all machines and science, with no animals or cooking, so wives everywhere tend to be bored and need their own TV!
