Advantages: educational, good mix of programs, suiteable for all
Disadvantages: none
This happens to be one of my favourite TV channels, not just my favourite on the satellite network, but out of all the TV channels. When it looks like nothing entertaining or interesting is on the main channels I always end up at the Discovery channel!! There is always something interesting going on here. It is educational, therefore suitable for all the family. They show a variety of good factual programmes and often have ‘special’ nights, where you can watch an array of programmes on the same topic - great if you are interested in that topic, and even better if you want to learn more about a certain topic. I personally enjoy Thursday nights, which is called ‘Crime Night’ and features ‘The Medical Detectives’ for an hour, then ‘The FBI Files’ for another hour, and then ‘The Forensic Detectives’ for an hour! All take true cases, and show you how they were solved using forensics. Some cases had to wait for years before the technology came along to solve them - very interesting. Other interesting programme’s are about Vietnam, The Egyptians, Storms, Titanic and many more. Daily at 7.30 there is a programme featuring the latest technology but is only on for half an hour that is a shame. So don’t leave this channel out - even if it is a last resort channel I’m sure you will ‘Discover’ it as I did. Another excellent thing, is that they have a sister channel called ‘Discovery plus 1’, that shows the same programmes an hour later. This is very helpful if you wanted to record something, but missed it, or you come home later than you expected. I find this helpful because I can watch things on other channels first, and then switch to Discovery plus 1 an hour later to see my usual programme.
