Advantages: Some good shows and films.
Disadvantages: Repeats!
The Disney Channel is an extremelly long running TV channel, and probably one of the longest running childrens TV channels. Disney Channel was first launched on the 18th April 1983, and on March 19th 2008, the channel went into HD. The headquarters is in Burbank California in the USA, and is shown in around 72 countries.
In the UK, the DisneyChannel is shown on Satellite and Cable (i.e. Sky, BT vision, Virgin), but is not shown on the freeview channels.
The Disney Channel used to be renowned for young kids, but in recent years with programmes like Hannah Montana and films like Camp Rock and High School Musical, the age range of the Disney Channel has gone from just youngsters up to teenagers, and even older!
Todays Disney Channel shows programmes like Hannah Montana, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, Cory in the House, Sonny with a chance and Wizards of Waverly Place. As well as some of the original programmes like Lizzie McGuire and Fillmore later at night.
As well as the programmes, Disney Channel has also started playing "Disney Channel Original Movies", which have proven exceptionally popular. These started growing in popularity with High School Musical 1&2, since then there has been the films Jump In, Camp Rock, Dadnapped, Minutemen, Cow Belles and the new Disney Channel Original Movie Princess Protection Programme, with Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato.
As well as the TV programmes made famous by the DisneyChannel, many of the stars of the shows are also becomming famous for their music.
Hillary Duff from Lizzie McGuire, Miley Cyrus from Hannah Montana, Demi Lovato from Camp Rock, Selena Gomez from Wizards of Waverly Place, The Jonas Brothers from Camp Rock, Vanessa Hudgens from High School Musical, and the list keeps on growing...!
The Disney Channel runs from 6am til Midnight with "Disney Channel Previews" inbetween when there are no shows been broadcast.
Some of the shows on the Disney Channel do seem to be "fillers", like Phineas and Ferb which are 10 minute long shows inbetween the longer, more popular shows, but kids seem to enjoy them, and its better than adverts!
Adverts are one thing the Disney Channel doesn't do- there are never adverts advertising products like toys etc, only like on channels like BBC which advertise new programmes and specials etc. This is good cause it means that breaks in programmes are only 30 seconds -1 minute long.
The Disney Channel has some fun shows on it, its very teenage-y orientated, and when the programmes are repeated around 3 times a day, when you've someone in your household who has it on ALL day, you do get bored of hearing the same shows over and over again! But from 3-6pm its mainly new shows! :)
Summary: In my opinion the best kids TV channel!
