Disadvantages: Number of repeats - summer turned over to Big Brother

E4 is the first of channel 4's satalite channels that was launched by Channel 4. The channel was launched in 2001, although it was a pay per view channel, meaning that it was not free. Although the channel could be watched through mediums such as Sky as part of one of their packages. This subsequently changes when the contract ended between Sky and Channel 4, and E4 subsequently became free to air and in 2005 became free to view on Freeview and not part of top up Tv.

The main focus of the audience of the channel is mainly 18 to 35 age group, as this is seen as more lucrative, as they are more likely to attract viewers of this age range. This can be seen in the range of programmes that are shown on the channel, as it shows range from the never ending repeats of Friends to The Inbetweeners.

There are three types of show that can be seen on E4, these are repeats of shows that are shown on both Channel 4 and E4, shows commissioned especially for E4 such as the Inbetweeners and Skins, or there are programmes that are shown on Channel 4, but are shown on E4 a week in advance, usually straight after the it has been shown on Channel 4.

What I really like about E4 is that is innovative in its programming, as it shows programmes no other TV channel would show, as can be seen from shows that aimed for those on their twenties, such as Skins.

The only problem that I have with E4 is that, during the summer most of the day can be taken up by programmes that are related to Big Brother. This can be annoying if you do not like Big Brother. In the begining when I liked Big Brother I did not mind, but as I have come to dislike the show, I have found the summer days of E4 to be boring.

Another problem that I hav with E4 is the amount of repeats that are shown on the channel, especially Friends. Friends was one of the best programmes on TV when it was new, but once you see it a couple of times it can become boring. This makes E4 again a little boring.

I would recommend that a person takes a look at the programmes that are shown on E4, as usually it has something that will interest most people. Another there is the problem with the number of repeats and the number of Big Brother programmes.
