E4 - what does the 'e' stand for? (E4)

A sad fact about me is when I get in from work or want to unwind I like watching crappy tv.

E4 is perhaps the best channel for people like me, people who like to watch something non-serious, often American, comedy, light-hearted, or teen dramas and series where it doesn't matter what episode it is, you'll end up laughing and not have to concentrate too hard.

E4 is a channel by channel 4 and is as I like to refer to it, channel 4's teenage sister!

The channel is on freeview, sky, virgin and some of the shows are below:

And so many more! (But you get the idea)

The reason I like E4 so much is partly to do with the e4 peek sneak they operate on some shows, for example, Desperate Housewives is a channel 4 show, BUT you can watch next week's episode on e4 straight after this week's episode on channel 4. This is a fantastic feature, IF you have E4, it can be bloody annoying though when your mates have all seen something you haven't.

The channel can be annoying with any channel other than the BBC, you get adverts and perhaps they are just more annoying to me as they are particularly aimed at my demographic (females 18-25) but they are just annoying and stupid. I often find myself getting annoyed and usually fast forwarding through them if I have the option to.

The channel is famously purple and white, and the website is just as flamboyant, on the website you can look in to each program in depth and find out story lines, character backgrounds and much more with e4 catch up. The website also holds a full listing of what is on the channel for up to 7 days in advance.

E4 can be very repetitive which can be annoying, sometimes the episodes of all our favourite programs like Friends can be on two days running, I don't think this happens all the time, mainly at the weekends when it is different scheduling from the week.

If there is nothing on television this is where I turn, it is rubbish at its best - this is the type of channel my dad constantly says has ruined the generation I am part of. As long as you can appreciate most the programs on this channel are just that programs you'll be fine. I can take or leave e4 but will often choose to watch it because of boredom I would must admit I do have many of the above shows on sky plus series link, but that's because there really isn't anything on television these days.

E4 is overall a break from the serious, stresses of everyday life. A fictional world that can be addictive. I can say I worry about younger people being obsessed with these types of shows and thinking that it is real, it is not.

Finally, what does the 'e' stand for? I have always assumed entertainment, but i could be wrong?! Anyone know?
