Channel 4's new entertainment channel, E4, takes to the air on Thursday 18th January 2001 at 8.15pm.

Programmes include the new series of 'Friends', series two of 'Trigger Happy TV' (10pm Monday 22nd), new 'Sex and the city', 'ER', 'Ally McBeal' and 'Dawson's creek'. Some other Channel 4 classics will be returning, including 'Brass eye'.

Day one programming is reportedly as follows:

E4 will be carried by (initially) Eurobell, ntl Digitalplus, OnDigital (as a primary channel), Telewest Digital and Analogue. E4 and BSkyB are apparently still in talks about carrying this new channel, although it would be very unlikely that this channel isn't available on Sky from Day One. Indeed, E4 promos are running on the Astra satellite, (12168V), so it's likely that the legal issues are close to being resolved.

E4 are clearly out to rival Sky One, and initial impressions are that E4 could be a hit. Watch this space...
