Advantages: Loads of extra channels

Disadvantages: Signal strength can vary depending on location

On the face of it Freeview is brilliant, its a cheap way to get loads of extra TV channels without the hassle of expense of having a satelite dish fitted and for people in rented accomodation like I am its ideal.

To get set up with Freeview you either need to buy a set top box which plugs into your TV or like I have, buy a TV with the box built in. Simply follow the instructions and all being well you'll have access to up to 50 extra channels on top of the standard 5, BBC1 etc.... with no monthly fee, there are also around 600 odd radio channels with excellent quality sound, though I find it a bit strange to have the TV on to listen to the radio.

I dont know about other areas of the county but in the West Country where I am the signal strength of Freeview can be a bit patchy at times, usually during crap rainy weather. On days like this the picture can jump and freeze, sometimes so much so it's unwatchable. Its only been really bad on a couple of occassions and luckily its not been when theres something on I really want to watch so I can live with the teething trouble until I have a home where I can have Sky.

Summary: Good way to get extra value from your telly
