Advantages: Wide range of channels, great signal, and easy to use.
Disadvantages: Maybe some more channels would be nice?
I remember wanting Freeview for a while but never being allowed it because my Dad thought I watched too much TV already, and he assumed I'd watch more because I had access to more channels, the thing is he was wrong. That's where for me Freeview defies the idea that more channels means more time watching TV - for me, it just means I don't want as much rubbish, and I watch more of the programs I want to!
I think this can sort of be said for most people, they tend to like watching TV for a couple of hours a night and tend to channel flick settling on something they sort of like but hadn't necessarily planned to watch, Freeview just opens up the access and allows you to stop wasting time watching programs you don't want to. With the channel database forever expanding you'll find there's a channel to your taste that has some good programs for you to follow. Whether you are into television entertainment, documentaries, comedy sketch shows, music channels, radio, historical dramas, news programs, American sitcoms and US series, children's entertainment, quiz shows and online shopping, you'll find all this for free, right at the end of your finger tips! Check out the latest channels on offer here: http://www.freeview.co.uk/freeview/Programmes
Freeview offers two services:
- One, the standard box with around 50 available TV channels at a standard start up cost (usually the price of a set top box) around £15 - £30 for your basic range - no fancy extras.
- Two, the Freeview+ option, giving you the ability to pause, record and rewind live TV! All the channels in the standard package with a few extra perks. This of course is still a standard cost, with no monthly payments.
I've been using my HDD DVD Recorder for about two years, and in all that time have never had a problem with my Freeview that is integrated within the box. Sometimes I need to adjust my aerial but on the whole it's great! Check here: http://www.freeview.co.uk/availability to see if you can access all the channels! Digital signal is being phases in throughout the UK so if you can't yet access Freeview now it won't be long. The country should be converted by 2010.
Summary: A great box for receiving great TV!
