Advantages: extra channels no extra cost

Disadvantages: not as many channels

After having poor reception from sky due to being level with a load to treetops ( I live in a flat) and paying for that priviledge.

I decided to cancel my membership and purchase a freeview box and the bargain price of £35 from argos.

It was very simple to install and the picture quality and reception is excellent and I'm happy to say that my TV does not go off every five minutes plus it doesn't freeze in bad weather.

The freeview box is one option available to the general public as well as sky cable or other such companies offering satalite channels for when the country switches completly to digital viewing by 2012.

Freeview has up to 50 tv channels and radio stations with no subscription so no monthly charge for watching.

You do not get such a large range as sky but heres some of the channels you do get....

CHILDREN

*CBBC
*CBeeBies
*Citv

ENTERTAINMENT

*BBC 1,2,3 and 4
*E4, E4+1
*Itv 1,2 and 3
*More4
*Film4
*Dave, Dave+1
*Five, Fiver and Five usa.

plus loads more including interactive NHS and teletext.

Considering you only pay a one off charge for the box itself and in todays credit crunch market we are all trying to save a few pennies and switching to freeview will certainly do that.

An excellent no frills extra channel package with one low cost outlay.

Summary: you get what you pay for but in this case for free

As you say, one of the great advantages of Freeview is that it is reliable in bad weather. In fact, where I live it's actually more reliable then since I can only get ITV2, ITV3 and ITV4 when it's raining :-).
