Since I have been using Freeview for the last 5 years more and more channels have become available. Before Freeview became widely available you were stuck with the normal 5 analogue channels or you had to sign up to Sky or NTL (Cable) if you wanted to receive additional channels. Nowadays to me it seems that unless you want Sky Sports or Movies and possibly a few other packages, Freeview is more than sufficient for most people. When I last checked there were almost 50 odd digitals channels not to mention the large number of radio stations. You find that a lot of people say you need a new Ariel but my advice would be to get your Freeview device and see what channels you get, you might be surprised with what you pick up. It is so easy to scan for channels and the picture and sound quality is so much better than analogue, no more fuzzy pictures or ghosting, it's great. Also with the introduction Freeview + you can buy devices to record programmes to a hard disk. Top up TV is an add on to Freeview which allows you to pay for extra channels such as Setanta Sports, make sure you have a compatible device for Top Up TV before you purchase it. I know that the analogue signal is slowly be phased out, so you may want to check to see when this is due to happen to your area.
