Advantages: free!

Disadvantages: limited range of channels

Freeview is a range of popular channels that can be accessed using a Freeview tuner. You can buy Freeview boxes that can be plugged in to the analog aerial slot but the majority of new TVs have a built in Freeview receiver. I have found that the major downside is that the signal is not always strong enough to work properly on my TV. I have Virginmedia on my main TV and use Freeview on my second TV but it is not a cheap option as i thought as i had to buy a booster aerial as well as the Freeview box to get a strong enough reception. There are an OK range of channels but it is not amazing. There are the normal terrestrial channels and then there are extra channels from BBC and then other channels like Sky News, Sky Sports and UK History and a few music channels. There are other channels that are sometimes available for a few weeks/month which aren't advertised that well and i always seem to find out a few days before they expire. You can also get radio stations on Freeview but i have never seen the point of listening to radio on the TV.

Summary: good free service, if you can get decent reception
