God I love this channel (The God Channel)

The God Channel is a Christian TV station that has been running since 1995. The channel showcases a range of Christian programming, from music videos, to conferences, and youth shows with DJs and the like.

I have to say that I like the God Channel, but I don't like all of it. The programming is really such a subjective topic; you either like it or don't. For example, I am a big fan of Joyce Meyer, the no-nonsense American preacher who applies Biblical teaching to everyday life. She's down to earth, likable and accessible, and I have bought many of her books, videos etc over the years. She is also very open about the finances of her organisation, and I know this is a stumbling block for many people so I admire it. She isn't money mad, offering many of her resources for 'a donation of any amount'. Still, it's not my job to defend her, I'm just saying that I like her!

On the other hand, there are preachers like Benny Hinn, who have been shrouded in controversy. I guess the main point to make is that it's a lot like real life in that, as a Christian, it's up to us to take what we hear, weigh it against Biblical principles, and see what conclusions we come to. To take everything as gospel (pardon the pun) is not the right thing to do. On the other hand, openly critical attitudes won't get us anywhere either.

Rory and Wendy Alec, who head up the station, seem like nice people. I don't know them, but I like them! The music videos are getting better by the year in the Christian music industry, and bands like Third Day continue to create brilliant music. The youth shows are obviously aimed at youth, and won't be everyone's cup of tea, but all in all they are doing a good job.

All in all, a channel that offers a valuable resource to Christians everywhere, but not one that you should take without weighing what you see against the good old Bible.
