I had heard of ITV 2 but to tell you the truth I had never flicked the sky digital channels to find it. With so many channels and so less few hours of the day to watch television the last thing I needed was another channel on my list of channels. For those of you with Sky digital you will know how many channels you can have the option of watching. It was only when Pop Idol came on television that I first watched ITV2. And now I do watch it quite a bit.

What is ITV2?
It?s a free channel, a sister channel of ITV1. ITV1 is still the number one channel and ITV 2 is the second channel which contains all the programmes old and new from ITV1. So if you have missed your ITV soaps you can catch them on ITV2. They show repeats several times a day. One thing it does is that if you do like your soaps like Coronation Street or Emmerdale you no longer have to worry about missing them because they come on again on ITV2. Also it means you don?t have to record them since they are screened within a few hours of them being shown on ITV 1.

You can watch ITV2 on channel 226 on Sky digital. Although, the channel is nothing new or isn?t making any new strides with any new programmes I did think the concept of it showing extra bits from shows like Pop Idol were really good. It gave viewers the choice as to whether they wanted to watch extra Pop Idol or not which I think was good.

However, when you do watch ITV2 the picture quality and the general organisation of programmes does seem second rate when compared to ITV 1. You can certainly tell all the funding goes to ITV1 and not ITV2. Like ITV1 it?s contains advertisements, I have realised that the advertisements do run longer than they do on ITV 2.

In comparison to BBC or ITV 1 this channel is nothing special like many channels on Sky digital it promises much but fails to deliver. Many companies think that to have success they need to only have a channel. Few channels have content of any worth. Un
less, I was a person who had hours to spare a day each day then I would say this channel was marvellous but since I haven?t all I can say is that putting repeats on a channel won?t make it a big hit. Things like extra clips from programmes might do though. The extra footage on Pop Idol and back stage gossip was good to watch.

I do think ITV 2 needs to improve a lot. We already have good channels like UK Gold which shows repeats the last thing we need is a copy cat which is what I think ITV 2 is at the moment. Not everything that comes on ITV 1 I want to watch again.
All I can say is thank god this channel isn?t one of the four terrestrial channels. In my view there is only room for one channel that is ITV 1.
