Advantages: alternative music
Disadvantages: little range
I was really excited when I got digital TV because it had the alternative music channel MTV2. For you people who are not sure what alternative music is it is a mixture of punk, rock and metal. So when the Digital man had installed our digital the first thing I did was go to the music channel and put in our favourites. I switched it on and started to sing along to the songs that I knew. A few days later I had worn out the privilege. I had started to play guess the song. On the ten most voted songs I would sit there and guess what song it was next (or at lease the band). The worst thing was I normally got it right. My list consisted of Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Slipknot, Korn, Blink 182, and Ect. Yes that is right all the mainstream alternative music. My main problem is that I like the less popular music of the alternative section. Bands like Incubus (who are now getting played because they have become popular) tool and so on. It annoyed me that certain bands were getting more play than others. It was favouritism on the music. MTV 2 is meant to be alternative music not mainstream. ------------------------ So what shows are on there? Most of the time it is 'alternative music 'or 'viewers choice'. This is where you phone in and request your song or they play a random group of songs. There are interviews with some bands on sometimes and even live concerts such as the 'Red Hot Chilli Peppers live in Russia'. The Riot is the chat show on MTV2. They interview bands, have the latest news and show new videos. There are the top ten requested songs that play what you want. Bands sometimes choose their favourite songs and videos. I was really surprised to find out that soul fly like the beetles. I really didn’t have them down as a fan. ----------- MTV 2 is hit and miss, if you don’t like a song change channel (perh
aps to Kerrang the other alternative music channel). It has some good points and some bad. It really does annoy me the lack of variety in the songs they play but then you can’t have everything. Sara

- 16/09/01 I would rather administer myself a barbed-wire enema than watch pop dross on MTV, so MTV2 does make a nice change... |

- 16/09/01 Love the title of your op, it's the truth about the way they run the channels though. I worked for a music distribution company for 8 years & swiftly learnt that radio programming is just that, they programme the listener, I guess T.V. programming is the same, so now I just listen to CD's or records, use MTV & the likes for visual effect but don't get suckered or you might start dancing to "Steps"! |

- 16/09/01 Even though I have Sky digital and there seems to be loads of channels now, they still seem to play the same songs over and over again.
I love Indie music and old punk from the 70's, but get fed up of the repeats. |
