Advantages: Some humour, Lots of familiar music groups
Disadvantages: Very Strange Topics of Conversation, Perhaps too many new bands! (for me anyway)
Having been ill off school for a few days, i have had alot more than enough time to absorb myself in the musical schemes of MTV2. Apparently the Black Sheep of Music channels, and what a good job it does, but has it rightfully earnt that name? The sole difference between MTV and MTV2 is that a vast majority of the people who watch MTV2 are the ones who live for 'Kerrang' and have the need to be individual. (As i have pointed out on numerous occasions, there are so many of these 'individuals' that they are no longer individual! If you can understand my meaning). So anyway these people truly believe they are different, but MTV2 has the same type shows and occasions as MTV only put into different context. The same on-screen slagging of other groups, text requests instead of mere phone calls and e-mails, (I cannot hide my dissapointment at them not showing a text message i sent in to 'Cow' although that is most irrelevant!) Still the 'viewers choose' and 'Most wanted' are frequent shows to the channel the only difference is the genre of music displayed. Instead of your usual (some do say 'towny') pop, rnb type music as seen on MTV, MTV2 brings you punk, rock, nu-metal, gothic and plenty of other categories. I must say that although sometimes funny, the most annoying product of MTV2 is their absurd commercials/adverts. Some of the things they come out with are unbelieveable, for example : CHEESE! I have no idea how many times in an hour i heard presenters and bands discuss cheese but i do know that it was too many times to keep up interest! I can watch MTV2 for ages and see at the very least 2 songs i recognise, whereas the ones shown on MTV are known to all (even if we do not like these tracks they are extremely familiar), this makes MTV2 a different experience for me, with quite a few good outcomes (mostly my discovery of new bands and tracks). Although, having said all t
his i do confess i definitely prefer MTV2 to channels such as MTV / The Box etc but that would be because of the type of music played, if i thought for a moment i would see more of my style played on MTV i would instantly be watching that channel. But still, i think Kerrang is a much better source of new music, and i find MTV particularly strange! But hey...thats only my opinion!

- 29/11/02 MTV-2 used to have the superb 2-Eclectic programme with some really unusual stuff on it... it was on really late, but was always the best music on TV.
Sadly, they've now got rid of that, and started showing those really irritating edited soundbites of people saying 'MTV-2' all the time which makes me not want to watch it. Grrr... |
