Advantages: Brand New is good
Disadvantages: The rest is too commercial
MTV eh? Hmm? Isn't it? What can I say about it? Bascially, MTV is a channel devoted to contemporary music. And by that I mean chart stuff. At least it is in the main. There are also some more specialist programmes, such as The Lick, which focuses on R&B. There also used to be a show called Superrock, which had harder rock and metal acts on. And this is where it all falls down. I don't mind being subjected to chart nonsense for too long. Hell, I even like some of the less commercial stuff, but for people with a more specialist interest there isn't anything. I again cite Superrock as example. First of all it had two hours at a daft time on monday nights. This was then cut back until it disappeared. I imagine the reason for doing this was poor viewing figures, but at 2300-0100 on Mondat night, what do they expect (it was also a very badly made show). To be a serious music channel, surely they should be more willing to show minority interests. Music isn't a like or dislike thing, like a football team. People can like stuff from any genre, but how are you going to find this out if they don't show any of it? But I'll end on a good note. I think that Brand New (if it's still running) is an excellent programme, so wathc that. Oh damn, I'll be ending on a bad point after all. Select, with either Donna Air or Richard Blackwood, is rubbish. No, wait, I've thought of a redeeming feature. I've been told that they have a second channel on digital called MTV2 that deals with a better mix of music, so maybe ONdigital is wort ha go after all...
