Advantages: Good Music, Decent Shows
Disadvantages: Irritating Presenters, Repeating Shows
MTV has to be one of my favourite channels. I have Sky Digital meaning there are like 11 music channels to suit everyone. But lately its not been as appealing as it was for me a while back. MTV began on 1st August 1981. I think the first music video to be shown on the channel was ‘Video killed the radio star’, not sure who its by though. It was a very appropriate song to start off the music video trend. A few years ago the channel had shows like ‘Greatest hits’ presented by that funny women Kimsy. Singled out (The American Version) was also on, which I absolutely loved. Also on was Unplugged, which showed stars like Sheryl Crow, and George Michael kick it live. I was also mad for the cartoons like Beavis and Butthead and Daria. But I don’t seem to see either cartoon on anymore! After a while all these shows just disappeared. Greatest hits was pulled and Unplugged now comes on VH1. I was really gutted because Singled out was replaced by the British version of the show, which just doesn’t have the same appeal as the American one. The British one was boring and when Richard Blackwood and Sarah Cawood got replaced it was even worse. Not really appealing to me anymore! They play a lot of new music videos before a lot channels play them and they even advertise their exclusives. They have a few shows like MTV hits and the number 1 music channel which play nothing but music non-stop, which is good for people who love the latest tunes but not really good for people who prefer older songs. Nowadays shows like Jackass, MTV cribs, making the video, hit list UK, brand new, select, video clash, Daily edition, diary of and stuff like that comes on. Jackass is a gross show that you just can’t help laugh at. It’s pretty sick but it is really funny. MTV cribs is a show about touring celebrities houses. I’ve seen a few and it’s quite good. Destiny’s Child house was so nice
and girly! But one thing about this show is it repeats a lot, ive seen the same episode at least three times. Making the video is about making the music video. It shows how music videos are made and feature celebrities like Destiny’s Child, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez and Eve amongst many others. This also repeats a lot and can get very boring very quickly. Hit list UK used to be really good when Cat Deeley presented it alone. Now her and Edith bowman are so irritating. I never watch the show and the MTV chart also seems a little bit screwed up these days anyway. Select is good when Lisa and Danann present it but I can’t stand it when that annoying, irritating, unfunny cow (Ex Hollyoaks star) Natalie Casey presents it. She even has the most irritating voice but she gets to do the voice over and video clash and has her own show Daily Chart live, which may I say I never ever watch. Video clash is a text message show. They give you the choice to choose between two songs and you text your choice along with a personal message, which floats at the bottom of the screen. Daily edition is the news show presented by the very irritating Edith Bowman. The news and gossip is good shame about the presenter. They talk about all the latest stuff and its also live. Diary of is a great show which follows artisits around for a while and see what they get up to. I’ve seen the diary of Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Puff Daddy and the late Aaliyah and I must say they are intimate and interesting to watch as the celebrities your watching are 100% at that point and without make up too! One thing annoying about MTV is the fact that they repeat shows to often which is so boring. There is also a lot of advertising, which can be really annoying, but some adverts have a message behind them, which can also be very interesting. Some of the presenters of MTV are really cool and funny like Richard Blackwood, Danann B
reathnach, Zane Lowe and Trevor Nelson. But most presenters annoy the hell out of me such as Natalie Casey and Edith Bowman. Why oh why are they on TV? I love the MTV movie awards better than the music awards because better people turn up and I especially loved this years movie awards as my one of my favourite actresses Kirsten Dunst presented it with Jimmy Fallon and it was hilarious! I honestly loved MTV a few years ago, it was the only decent music channel around but with other channels like the box and kiss turning up it kind of makes you think is this channel really that good? I still love it and will always be watching it but probably not as much as I used to. I think the channel would appeal more the younger viewers because it plays mainly top 40 stuff. - 17/11/01 Yeah, it was the Buggles (Video Killed..). Although it was released in '79 but all the eighties compilations.
I prefer Kerrang! Good op'though. |

- 28/10/01 You certainly know your MTV! I wholly agree & find that with other similar channels close by it's now desirable to 'flick' through the listings until the most favourite videos appear. |

- 19/10/01 I love MTV Base best of all the music channels. It's great having digital as you can flick from one channel to another and there's always a song I like on!
Great op
