Addictive as this channel is to watch, it's fallen away from what it first set out to do. MTV stands for 'music television' and you would therefore think that its primary intention is to play music videos and be a channel dedicated the art of music. This is certainly what it originally did. Music giants like the recently departed Michael ... Jackson owe much to this channel promoting their music videos and thus their music. But it is rare that you even catch a show that is musically related now. Sure the programmes that the channel does show: 'The hills', 'Run's house' etc are entertaining and frustratingly addictive but they have nothing to do with music. It's a great channel to watch if you're bored because the likelihood is that you'll find an entertaining programme to pass the time away. It's just that if you're searching music, you'll be massively disappointed. There is none.

I really like MTV during the day and does show some great music videos, but its a shame you have to pay extra for it. We used to get it on our Sky package but have decided to save some money and have scrapped it. If you didnt have to pay for it, I would definetely choose it over other music channels and just have it on in the background. ... Although I do have to say, they are starting to show a lot less music videos and putting on reality programs.
For people that have never heard on MTV, its a music channel which used to play lots of music non-stop, however now this channel has a lot of breaks for commercials between songs and doesnt play much music in the evening just reality TV programs like, The Hills, Pimp my Ride, Jack Ass, Runs House and many more.
I do like 'The Hills' it follows a group of young adults, some of the girls work for Teen vogue and go out a lot, its quite funny watching the cat fights between them all.

Music television. If the name was anything to go by, you would expect a lot of music to be going on when you check out this channel. This is the exact oposite to what is on the channel nowadays.
I remember the simpler times when if you wanted music, you could put on MTV and it would have all the best new music, but that was ... about 10 years ago. Now all that is on MTV (MTV 1 atleast, the other MTV channels have music, such as MTV hits, MTV 2 etc.) is rubbish reality TV shows with stuck up teenagers. I simply no longer take the time to look at MTV anymore.
This is not even mentioning the adverts, which last about 5 minutes, every 10-15 minutes. It makes watching the unbearable TV shows on the channel even more unbearable.
The channel does have a silver lining however, MTV has great up to date news which is usually interesting to watch if you are interested in new songs or "celeb gossip". The MTV music video awards are also showed on this channel, which is always interesting with live performances and britney kissing madonna etc.
All in all, i rarely watch this channel, only to see the awards and occasionally news.
