TV Licence ... few years a go we didn t have a lot of money and the TV license was up for renewal. We decided that it wasn t a necessity and that we d see how we d go without it. We ve not looked back since and it s one of the best decisions we ve ever made. A TV license will cost you just over £140 for 12 months and whilst numbers three and four don t actually charge you, the BBC do. The other channels make their money from advertising and if the BBC did that then they would have no need to charge us all. Freeview ... ve had our TV service delivered by Virgin Media and its predecessors (Cabletel, :ntl...) for over 10 years now so you might be wondering why I should be bothering about writing a review of Freeview since I can clearly get all the Freeview channels and more with our cable service! Well, let s say that in the past, and even occasionally today, the cable service has proved less than reliable. Don t get me wrong, the service we get from Virgin Media is an order of magnitude better than either of the previous companies but, still, there are times when the picture freezes for no apparent reason and it s then that we swap over to Freeview. Ceefax ... choose page 174 and it is on 100, you have to wait a couple of seconds until it cycles to the page you want. Generally, it occasionally shows up in the early hours of the morning on BBC2 with some waiting room style music in the background. Ceefax also provides subtitling for a programme which is ideal if you need the sound down low or have something loud playing in the background. This is another reason why it was a quick access way to get what you wanted. For me though it has to be the simplicity.
