Advantages: Music chosen by the veiwers, fast response
Disadvantages: None that I can think of!
How many times have you sat in fromt of your television, switched over to satellite, cable or digital, and hope and prayed that this time, just one time, you could switch on to a music channel and not be confronted with the usual disposable, impassionate teeny bopper crap that today's pop culture inflicts upon us? The number of times I have switched onto MTV, VH1, or god forbid, The Box, and thought to myself - "If this music were food, it would taste like cardboard." I thought my problem was solved with MTV2. The alternative music division's answer to MTV, MTV2 was supposed to give us another option, a choice to get away from Britney and Steps and the many carbon copies that resulted from them. Alas, MTV2 just did not fulfill my expectations. There was just not enough scope for the veiwers to chose the music that was played. For a long time I begged for someone to have the sense to create a music channel totally in the control of the veiwers, a music channel with a playlist devoid of the usual meaningless, chart-topping nonsense; even a channel with the emphasis on the music, rather than on advertising. I thought it was an ideal, one of those things that you wish for but you believe could never happen. You can imagine my delight when one day, while flicking aimlessly through the music channels with my digital remote control, desperately searching for the music that I never thought I would find, I happened upon a new channel, with a familiar red and white logo in the corner of the screen. Having been a lifelong fan of Q magazine, and knowing the kind of music that they support, I knew instantly that my wish had come true. I sat in amazement, remote control forgotten, as one great song after another appeared on the screen. I counted up to seven songs before a commercial was shown. Never before had I been able to watch one channel so effortlessly, without the restlessness of wanting to switch over, just in case something be
tter was on somewhere else. I saw Limp Bizkit,Oasis, Metallica, Coldplay, The Beatles, Creed, The Sex Pistols, The Clash, U2, Radiohead, The Bloodhound Gang, Moby, Blur, Marilyn Manson, Eminem - all the music that I had hoped for in one channel and more, so much more. And the best part? It was all chosen by the veiwers. Using the same system as The Box, I noticed the songs were played up to 20 minutes after being requested, not bad for a major jukebox channel. I encourage everyone who, like me, is sick to the back teeth of the usual garbage that MTV and VH1 spill out to check out this amazing new channel, I guarantee you will not be disapointed.

- 20/02/01 It's true that when Q first showed up on Digital TV the choice of videos was pretty small when compared to other channels - however, just about all the vids on there were ones I loved! Now they've become more establised, Q puts a new selection of videos up for selection, old and new, at least once a week, plus the reviews that they do of new music and artists is really helpful. So you can see why I love it! Thanks for the comment, much appreciated. |

- 15/02/01 Q is not a bad channel. Trouble is the choice of videos is limited and they don't change them too regularly. You also have to pay 60p per min to select one - too expensive for me - when you can watch them for free! |
