Advantages: A Massive range Of Products & Various Ways Of Ordering

Disadvantages: Many Poor Value For Money Items, A Superiority Complex

I don't like the QVC channel, I don't like most of its presenters and I don't like the way it treated me as a customer, that's when I was a customer. They are the last retailer on earth I would ever choose to shop from now.

QVC are a television shopping channel that originated in the U.S.A.

For many years now they have been broadcasting on British Satellite television and are now also available to view on Cable, Freeview, Freesat and On Line.

QVC broadcasts 24 hours a day and the bulk of that is live, the remainder is replays mainly of items for sale that were featured earlier in the day but sometimes for items first screened quite a while ago.

Why won't I shop with them and why don't I like them?

I won't shop with them anymore because when I phoned up to place an order they insisted that I created a pin number. I said that I didn't want a pin number as I only wanted to order over the telephone. They made every possible attempt to bully me into having a pin number despite me repeating that I had pin numbers galore on important things such as bank and credit cards and that I did not want yet another pin number or need it.

In the end I just asked them whether they wanted me to buy the product that I had phoned up for or not, because on the TV presentation they had said phone us with your credit or debit card payment details and you can buy it.

They said "no" you can not make a purchase without first setting up a pin number.

I then asked them what made them feel so special a retailer that they could insist and try to bully someone into creating a pin number. They had no answer. I went on to tell them that they are just a retailer, pure and simple and that they were as meaningless to me as any other retailer.

I didn't place the order and I never will buy anything from them ever again.

The reasons I stood my ground were because I genuinely didn't want yet another pin number; I didn't like their bullying unfriendly attitude; and I quickly realised that their insistence on my having a pin number was so that they could try to exercise some kind of control over me as a consumer and then steer me towards buying in a more automated way from them or on line, both of which methods of purchase would require a pin number.

I think at some point in the conversation I told them to just get over themselves and stop rating themselves as being so important an organisation.

The other things I don't like about QVC are that many of the presenters say the word "QVC" too often which I find irritating. I know I am on QVC, it was me who changed the channel to QVC, and it says QVC on a permanent logo visible on the TV screen

They also seem to have a strangely high number of praiseworthy and compliant random callers into the studio saying how marvellous a product is. I don't like this because I have no knowledge of how these calls have happened and as far as I am aware this aspect of the broadcast is not independently scrutinised. Correct me if I am wrong on this point please.

I also feel that in my opinion QVC sells some very expensive versions of basic products such as bedding and kitchen wear and I feel sorry for people without the Internet or other means of making price comparisons that might buy what in my opinion are not good value for money goods.

Remember that the "V" in QVC stands for Value.

All of the above is my own personal opinion and based on my own experiences. I have no interest financial or otherwise in any other TV shopping organisation or similar.

I can also add that I don't like Ideal World either and this is reflected in my review of Ideal World that is also visible on Dooyoo.

I actually work on the orderline at QVC and I`m sorry you felt you had been bullied into giving a PIN number. The pin the rep asked you for was purely for YOUR security incase you made any future purchases..that`s all!. We don`t try to hard sell to anyone when you call us and most of the questions we ask are for stats or for YOUR security as a customer. We don`t pass on ANY of your details to any third party! It takes roughly two minutes to set up a membership for a new customer and everything you tell us is completely confidential. . if you never shop with QVC again then that is obviously your choice but I just wanted to let you know why the PIN was important

I've bought a few things from there, yes, some are things aren't good value, but some offers are. You need to be a bit savvy and know what you want and whats its worth.
