Advantages: No need to move from your armchair
Disadvantages: Can get pretty hooked and spend money!
I have had Sky TV/Sky Digital for many years and, I have to admit, my favourite channel is QVC! It is much better than the other shopping and auction channels. I came across it purely by chance ? by the procedure of what is commonly known as ?channel hopping? and that was it, I was hooked. For those of you who do not have digital TV channels, QVC is a shopping channel which first came on-air on 1 October 1993 and has gone from strength to strength. Some of the goods it sells are: ? Electrical goods ? Health & Beauty ? Jewellery ? Collectables & Gifts ? Clearance Lines (yes, this channel has Sale days too!) The initials stand for Quality, Value, Convenience. It reaches 11.6 million UK households daily and is live on-air for 17 hours each day and takes over 14.7million phone calls per year. If you don?t have any form of digital TV then you can always access QVC on the internet. Its website is extremely user-friendly and informative and there is a section whereby you can view the item currently being shown on the TV so you can always purchase goods before they sell out. Alternatively, you can watch QVC online and if you want to order the particular item on show then all you have to do is press the yellow button and follow the instructions for your purchase. There is also an online TV guide to make sure that you do not miss out on your favourite shows. Because QVC has gained such a large audience, it has a tremendous buying power and can obtain expensive items at knock down prices. The presenters constantly tell you that you have a 28 day money back guarantee on EVERYTHING they sell, whether it is a garden hose, diamond jewe
llery, beauty products etc. If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase you can send it back to them and they will refund your money. Each day the programme has a special item which it calls a TSV (Today?s Special Value) and the viewer usually has the opportunity to purchase the specific item throughout the day but on the turn of midnight the TSV changes to a different product. These TSVs are usually of excellent value. When I first started watching QVC, I was mesmerised by the corny presenters and just listening to their chat was like listening to a comedy show. At first, I tuned in just to listen to them. One of my favourite presenters was called Debbie but she moved on to one of the rival shopping channels. Presenters have come and gone but one who has stayed is called Julia Roberts. Now Julia is not your typical stereotype presenter (sorry, Julia if you are a member of Dooyoo!) ? she is a normal woman, she has large breasts and can look quite plump at times but she is not afraid to be seen on air without her make-up and is quite prepared to go through the process of demonstrating the beauty products so that the viewer can decide for themselves whether the product is good or not. I have seen her in gym-wear demonstrating exercise equipment and all her lumps and bumps have shown but I like this, I am not being a bitch at all, what I am trying to say is that Julia Roberts is normal, like you and me, and I can relate to her. I don?t have to watch some dolly bird bimbo ? I am watching a ?real? person and I guess maybe this approach is what makes QVC so successful. I have also found that QVC can be quite an educational channel too. The presenters try and tell you the history of the particular product. For example, they will tel
l you all they can about gemstones and diamonds and Clogagh gold. Their Home Office Small Office hours are extremely useful ? I love to watch these because I have been learning so much more about computers and ancillary equipment. They talk to you in normal ?speak? not ?computer? speak and I understand so much more. Over the years I have bought various goods from QVC and have always been very pleased with them. I love their nail products (Nail Eat/Nail Drink is very good); I buy their Therabreath Dental System (USA product) and save so much money. I have bought some of their Diamonique range of jewellery (this is QVC?s home grown diamond) and I love the solitaire earrings ? at a cost of £22! I bought my husband a Fuji PineFix digital camera a few months ago and he is absolutely over the moon! Especially as I saved quite a considerable sum of money through purchasing through QVC! My goods have always arrived within 4-5 workings days and I have never had the need to return any products because I have always been entirely satisfied with them but I am sure there would not be a problem if I did so due to their 28 day money back guarantee. They do state that their website (www.qvcuk.com) is totally secure for your credit/debit card statements. All I can say to you is that I like QVC.

- 10/05/04 I've never really watched this one because mum and dad were always hooked on bid-up tv.I don't have sky now which is probably a good job because I'd want to order everything lol.

- 10/05/04 Thanks for r/r/c on my op on Trento. So you're here, too! I've just read your very nice op on your Portuguese family on the other site. - I've heard that teleshopping can become an addiction, so I'll stay away from it. :-) |

- 10/05/04 I must confess I love watching QVC. I don't do it cos I actually want to buy anything, I just find it really relaxing to watch this sort of completely non-mind engaging crap, and I really do mean that in the best way possible. It's just such a good way to help switch off in the evenings -which I guess is pretty sad and pathetic of me...but oh well! I agree julia roberts is one of the best presenters...definately. There's also a younger woman who sometimes does jewellery....I think she's called Sarah, who I quite like. Have you seen the man that occassionally presents the 'silver show' though? I forget his name, but he is AWFUL!
nice op.
