Advantages: Our Very Own Internet Presence

Disadvantages: Not Quite Good Enough to Represent the Scottish People

I opened up the Scottish Television Internet site with more than a little anticipation. After all, judging from the promotion the Scotland Toady presenters had given it, this new site was going to rival that of the BBC ,
which inn my opinion is one of the best Internet Sites to be found anywhere.

What I found on my first click was, to say the least, disappointing. The site is a mish-mash of purple and lilac squares, with information superimposed over them.

Undaunted, I clicked on the Scotland Today link and right away, things noticeably improved.

The royal blue background gives this page a far more acceptable look that that of Scottish Television's
'homepage' and the content is really very good.
It is simple, direct and full of promise. However, the classy look of this page is not matched by either the quality or the amount of coverage given to the news of the day. When I was first there, only three news items were on view,
1. the Fox hunting farce in the commons
2. the events in a road-death trial
3. the sad death of an actor in 'Taggart'.

This can hardly be considered good enough to compete with any of the existing 'television channel' sites,
and hardly fitting for the Internet site of the
Scottish nation’s television channel!

There is a ‘digging deeper’ button and I’m sure this facility will improve in time . . . it is extremely weak right now.

If there are any noticeable improvements, I will add to this opinion in future, meanwhile . . . I will not be visiting this particular site very often.

With the financial backing of the Scottish Media Group behind it, Scottish Television could and should have done so much better.

All in all this “window to the world” (which is what an Internet site should be) is far from bright enough or right enough to impr
ess the world-wide-web traveller.
If this were a school report, it would read,;
STV have done quite well, but can do better.

Another good op GG. You're right of course, they do seem to have hyped this site...... and it is a let down.

Ahh, the Shareen Nanjiani experience, I've heard of this,
make the male go weak at the knees, is that the one?
It is said, that there are those who worship the ground she walks on . . .?
Ans: Not sure, - one way to find out though . . .

Does it have a Shareen Nanjiani presence?
