Advantages: Brilliant picture quality
Disadvantages: Not enough channels at the minute
Sky HD is an absolute revolution in television broadcasting - the quality of the picture is amazing, like nothing you're even seen before.
To get Sky HD, you need a new HD box from Sky - just buying an HD-ready TV doesn't give you HD (that might sound obvious to people in the know, but you'd be surprised at how many people with an HD-ready TV wrongly think they're watching HD broadcasts). You also have to give Sky an extra £10 per month to subscribe to the HD channels.
HD channels include: Sky Sports (3 channels), Sky Movies (2 channels), Discovery and BBC. ITV do an HD channel, but this is only available on FreeSat - don't ask me why, I don't know!
For me, the best channel is Sky Sports - watching fast-moving action such as live football is just incredible in high definition. The players look so clear you could almost be in the stadium watching them live.
A great way to see the benefits of HD is to see what ITV's football coverage looks like compared to Sky's. Champions League nights are good for this... watch Sky's HD game for 5 minutes and then switch over to ITV, you'll be amazed at the difference! ITV's broadcasts are blocky and poor whereas Sky HD is crystal clear.
HD is fantastic.
Summary: If you can afford it, you should get it
