Advantages: No Blandness or Tight upper Lipped Newscasters.
Disadvantages: Adverts
----<Sky News>----
The last thing I do at night and the first thing I do before I put my glasses on in the morning, is switch Sky news on to see what's happening in the world, Sky news, compared to BBC News 24, has one huge disadvantage, the fact they show a lot of adverts. This is a bit annoying as interest rates, savings accounts and car sales are the usual brain drain items on these adverts.
Other than that, Sky news does give a fairly balanced account of what is going on in the world, from Iraq and Afghanistan, to Nepal and the latest resignation of Mayor Boris Johnston's right hand man.
----<No Stone Unturned>----
Sky really goes that extra mile, being underneath Murdoch's umbrella, the channel has a lot of reporters in America and the middle east, I like to be up on current affairs and see how the lads are getting on in the war torn corners of the earth, one war no one is covering is Chechnya, I should think even Martin Bell, the BBC veteran war correspondent wouldn't touch the place if he was still reporting.
Cases like the Vicky Hamilton case, were covered well, Vicky Hamilton was abducted in Bathgate by Peter Tobin in 1991 and found buried in a house in Margate at the bottom of the country, Vicky was the same age as myself, and I never thought I would live to see the day her body recovered, but it was, Tobin lived about 1 mile from me and 4 blocks away from my friends house, after the Angelina Kluk case (the Polish student found dead in a secret chamber in a church in Glasgow), Sky was giving regular updates on the case, the same thing with the Isle of Man kids home brutalities.
---->A Quick 15<----
Sky summaries give a wealth of information about everything going on in the world by both reporter and a band along the bottom with any breaking/important news.
I used to watch BBC 24 all the time, but it doesn't have the same friendly faces and is a more tight upper lipped news network, with bland studios and nuisance weather reports, I often think "If BBC could turn all their channels off that I have access too, I wouldn't be paying a staggering amount of money for a license".
----<My Opinion>----
Sky is a refreshing take on the stories of the day, with a well lit studio and with vibrant colours, it makes watching news a bit better than the blandness of the BBC's news network.
Better still, Sky news doesn't give long run downs on sports news as the channel has a dedicated Sky Sports News Channel, especially useful when the football season is finished and cricket and bowls and the like don't take up the space used to report something more useful.
With an array of beautiful women presenters and a light hearted take on some subjects, Sky news is my start to the day, and my end of the day look over things.
Summary: For a 15 minute watch, you get a low down on the topics of the day.
