Advantages: Always ready to cover the big stories from around the world
Disadvantages: Can be repetitive and would not know impartial if it met it in an empty room!
Sky News is a UK based 24 hour news channel straight out of the Rupert Murdoch stable.
The problem with that is that, quite often, there is not anything sufficient miserable happening in the world for them to report. So they repeat themselves. Again and again. Until you want to throw something at the telly.
Now, that is the same with all 24 hour news channels - it is an occupational hazard but the problem that I have with Sky News is twofold.
Firstly, if they are showing a press conference or, worse, something that requires silence like a memorial, they cannot help but talk over the live feed. Sometimes shutting up is a good idea.
Secondly, their impartiality is up their with the US Fox News station. I would not mind that if it did not try to come across as an impartial channel. Personally, I'd like to see impartial news coverage with identifiable 'comment' slots - so we could actually see what they were up to.
Obviously that will never happen but I just do not like having partial comment presented as fact.
All that said, their network of reporters is massive and they have the ability to cover big stories around the world at a moment's notice. However, I cannot get over the editorial element and so much prefer BBC News 24 (although that can be incredibly dull at times) and France 24.
Summary: Their views on your news.
