Advantages: I dont have SKY
Disadvantages: rolling news
I have been staying with a friend who has cable. She obsessed with the war and rolling news, especially Sky One.I prefer the propaganda network that is CNN to be honest, that little ticker tape at the bottom gives it a far groovier breaking news feel. Ok she likes Sky News mostly for one of the rugged news guys, this meant hours and hours of rolling news repeating the same stuff over and over again. The swoosh of the breaking story graphic jumps you out of your slumber for the twenty first time. Then the experts come and and inform us that the northern alliance have taken another piece of soil. Remember the sketch on Blackadder four when General Melchet inspects that scaled model of the enemy territory taken so far.”And what scale is this captain Darling<pause>One to one sir. Well Sky news war coverage is just like that as you are given slightly embellished repeated facts over and over again. Great Britain really hasn’t grasped the true properties of this kind of news yet. In the USA they fill out the gaps with a breaking house fire somewhere in the city. It wasn’t really news, but made great action shots from there over employed skycam helicopters. Too much information does indeed drive you insane (The Police 1984). They have this so called military expert who wears clear glasses and announcing that a large fuel tank of an American fighter was a1000 UXB. When in fact it was later discover to be a fuel tank lugged into some ruins by the Thalaban for propaganda purposes. And this guy is paid good movie to analyses the first images. With that kind of precise military accuracy, he should be working for the USAF on the targeting. The sky weather guy looks a little suspect to be honest and I suspect an appearance in a Dutch porn movie in his early showbiz days. Well at least they don’t have those ridiculously teethy birds like Urika anymore. Does my bum look big next to these tropical
depressions. The girl news casters are your typical shoulder padded types who will either end up on radio or a day time quiz show,Paul Coya has trodden this road well. Sky,your 24/7 news is boring and repative to the extreme, must do better.Bit like this opinion, well we have to write twice as many now to get any cash.

- 26/11/01 Will news boadcasters ever shut up about the war on Afghanistan? We've defeated the Taliban now - surely the rest is simply a formality? Why do we still need to know about their every move? Of course, the aim of this 'war' wasn't to defeat the Taliban anyway, but what the hey?
Good op though - made me laugh. |

- 26/11/01 Rugged news guys? Can't surpass Jeremy Bowen! Still, would need more than that to get me to watch hours and hours of repetitive news (who the hell does that anyway? Students and the braindead?) |
