Advantages: You will never miss anything you watch again

Disadvantages: you cant watch tv while recordng 2 things at once

I have had sky plus for over a year now and couldnt be without it now.
Let me tell you a bit about it. You get a digibox/satellite receiver, which has a built-in 20GB hard drive. This is where you record your programmes. It stores around 40 hours worth of programmes, which you can view at any time by going into your Personal Planner , this is an extra category right at the very bottom of your Sky menu, you then click onto the programme that you have recorded and press select to view.It is so easy to use and if i can work it out straight away then anybody can , even my 8 year old uses this to record her faveourite programmes.
To choose something you wish to record, you find a programme and just simply press the red 'r' button you get on your sky plus remote. You can even record 2 programmes at the same time (but whilst 2 programmes are recording you can not watch a channel.)
The best thing about recording a programme and playing it back is that you can fast-forward through the adverts. This can be done at four speeds: 2x, 6x, 12x and 30x. I love this feature as the adverts really annoy me.You can fast forward things at anytime that you have recorded but you can only fast forward live things that you are watching if you have paused it.May sound confusing but you will know what i mean when using this. You can pause tv at any time so you never miss out on anything ever again.
There's a way of setting Sky+ to your video/dvd so you can record straight onto that,im sure its easy but i have not done this as i havent needed to. A half hour programme takes up about 2% of the memory.
You can get a bigger hard drive that holds 80 hours of programmes. This is called the Sky+ 160 box as it has a 160GB hard drive. It's a bit more expensive to buy the box (there's no difference in what you pay Sky monthly), but worth the money if you need the extra memory. Back in April 2007 i paid £99.99 for the box as i waited for a deal but i think they are around that price now.
Hope this is useful for if you are thinking of buying this, i highly recommend this.

Summary: I have skyplus and this is my descrption of it and how i find it

The Sky+ 160 box hasn't been available for awhile now as is no longer manufactured... if you need the box replaced under warranty you won't be able to get it I'm afraid. xx

A couple of points, as you say you say you can record two programs at the same time but you can also watch a recorded program as well. Another feature as you mentioned is when a program you would like to watch comes on put it on pause and do other things (make tea) then press play so when adverts do come on zoom past them. One more point at the rear of the box you have an extra arial output which you can run a cable to another television and so if you put a tele in your bedroom, with a magic eye (available from any good tele dealers and ASDA) you can control the box from your second tele. My wife goes to bed at night when a program she wants to watch puts it on pause, goes to bed and then watches the program and zooms through the adverts. Hope this is useful.

Only fault I have with Sky+ is occasionally you get bad sectors that appear on the HD and it makes for abrubt skips in the recording GRRRRRR
