Advantages: You can record
Disadvantages: If a programme runs over it's time it won't record it
Aaaah Sky+. To me this is the best bit of technology in my house. This is one of the newer sky boxes where you are able to record t.v programmes, you can then rewind, fast forward and pause them. You can also rewind and pause live t.v.
I have the Sky+ 160 box which is split as follows; 80GB for storing shows you've recorded, 80GB for receiving Sky Anytime. The box itself is made by amstrad and is white in colour which I think looks really nice. It is about the size of a standard size dvd player (dimensions - 380mm x 72mm x 243mm). You will need to ensure it's somewhere that it has air around because of it's hard drive.
There is now a new package with Sky+ HD. It has a black box which is realy nice looking too, they have just released a lot more channels now so might be worth getting if you want unbelievable picture quality.
My view on sky plus is that I've had it for a couple of years now and I could never live without it now. You can record programmes and many of them you can select series link which means that all programmes will be recorded e.g if you record Eastenders and set series link it will record them all for you automatically and will do so unless you cancel it.
This makes my life so much easier. No fiddling around with tapes - you only have to press record and series link and you're set up. They are all stored in the planner and you can record up to 40 hours of t.v programmes, just make sure you keep an eye on how much space you have left. It tells you in the planner in the top right hand corner of the screen how much room is left. Another thing is if you are recording 2 things at once you cannot watch a 3rd channel but you can watch something you have in your planner.
A couple more positives about the Sky+ box is -
If you have recorded something and want to keep it you can select to keep it so you don't delete it in error and will have a K in a blue circle next to it so you know it's something that needs to be kept.
If you're not at home and need to record something you can set your mobile up to be able to dial down your phone line to record something on your sky box but you do need about half an hour notice to make sure that it definately will be recorded.
Unfortunately because I have had this for so long I cannot tell you any offers you can currently get for this box or if there's a one of fee for installation. But have a look on their website or call them and you may get a fab deal.
Highly recommended
Summary: Love it soooo much
