Advantages: Lots of channels and can record, etc.
Disadvantages: It's with Sky, who are just useless.
I'm going to be honest right from the start. I love TV. It is like a past time for me. I enjoy all the rubbish shows that most people don't. I can even watch documentaries. Now, for me, Sky Plus would be a god send. I can record programs, while watching something else. This is very handy for me, as I tend to find 2 things I want to watch at the same time.
We have been with Sky for a little while and took advantage of their buy Sky Plus and get the box and installation free. I don't know what kind of offer this is, as it's pretty much always on offer like this. Our choice includes, music and documentary channels. We also got our broadband through Sky as part of the deal. All was good.
The first 12 months of being a customer is painless and good. In that 12 months, we moved and had to pay £50 moving fee. This is a bit steep and I makes you feel penalised for moving.
Then you come to the 12th month. You get a phone call asking if you would like to extend the warranty for a nominal fee. The fee is quite steep as well, so you choose not to have the warranty. They decide to ring you up several times before accepting your answer of no.
This is where the fun really begins. After the 12th month has come and gone, our box decided it wanted to play up. It all seemed a little bit to convienient. You ring Sky up and they say it is going to cist an arm and a leg for a new box to fix the problem. We were in a corner with Sky, but perservered and got a local independant man in to fix it. 5 minutes and a damn sight cheaper than what Sky charge, out box was all fixed and has worked fine since.
For the channels you get, Sky is good. For the recording you can do, Sky is good. For prices and customer service, Sky is absolutely useless. They just haven't got a clue. Our package price was changed when we moved, as it was quite cheap before, but due to moving, we were not allowed that package anymore. Our package now costs us £48 a month for broadband and the tv channels. This is rather high and I hate paying it.
The customer service is horrible. They don't actually want to help you in any way. They just want to get your money out of you.
As I have already said, I lov TV. This is where Sky have me over a barrel. I would love to go to Virgin Media, which is cheaper and offers very similar channels, but they have not come to our area yet. Much like when Cable first came out. Downside of living in a village. As soon as it is though, Bye Bye Sky.
Summary: If you can, get Virgin media.
