Advantages: Lots of channels for little money

Disadvantages: None so far!

I had been a loyal BT customer for 7 years when I defected to Sky. Our contract with BT was coming to an end when an offer from sky popped through the door at the opportune moment. We were receiving the following from BT at £31.50 per month:

Line Rental
BT Broadband 8MB
Free evening and Weekend calls
1571 and 1471

The offer from sky was £33.50 for
Line rental
Broadband 8 MB
Free evening and weekend calls
Sky subscription to 3 packages

So it really was a no brainer-£2 per month extra to receive a sky + package for free. There was no installation charge and the sky+ box was free so what did I have to lose? BT offered me a rubbish incentive to stay, so needless to say I left!

I did have some problems with setting up the Sky broadband (a separate review/warning on that later!) but the television and phone set-up was without incident. We've had no problems with the equipment installed or the channels received so far. The service switchover from BT calls to Sky calls was seamless-no interruption in service and I got to keep my number from BT

The Sky Plus service is great! I have a rubbish memory so this is perfect for me-I can select "Series Link" on the sky planner and Sky+ will record all of the programmes for that series automatically, so that I don't have to remember to set an individual timer for each episode. The playback is great, and pause and fast forward/rewind are very convenient. Also pausing live TV is very handy when it comes to making cups of tea or hearing that pan boil over in the kitchen!

However, what really annoys me is that two months into our subscription and Sky are already upping the price of our package, only by a couple of pounds but I still think it's a bit underhanded to recruit new customers with one price plan knowing you will increase it in a few weeks.

I would definitely recommend Sky to other BT customers so long as they pick a time when there is no charge to leave BT and there is an incentive offer to join sky. (plus, ask a friend who has it, you may each be able to claim a cash incentive for the referral!)

Summary: I would recommend it
