Advantages: easy to use very convenient.

Disadvantages: you can only record 2 programmes at a time

Last summer, me and my hubby were watching TV. when an advert came on offering a free sky plus box to new customers. My hubby was quite annoyed at this, as he had been a loyal sky customer for the last 15 years. So with my encouragement, he rang up the sky office and told them he wanted to cancel his sky account. When They enquired why, my husband explained that he felt cheated that they were only offering the free sky plus offer to new customers. He was then transferred to another department. After a detailed discussion the sky representative asked my husband if there was anything they could do that would make him stay, to which my hubby replied,"yeah, give me the free sky plus box and ill stay." The sky representative agreed and hey presto we had blagged ourselves a free sky plus box.
We had our sky plus fitted on June 18th this year. The sky technician who came to install it, was both efficient and friendly. He took lots of time to demonstrate to me how the system works. He even left his mobile no incase I had any problems or questions at a later date.
Sky plus on screen looks just like normal sky. where you have all the TV listings for the week. However with sky plus you can scroll across to the programme you wish to record and press your red R button on the sky plus remote and It will then record the programme for you. The memory on the sky plus box holds about 40 hours of TV programmes. You can record two programmes at the same time. But one of those programmes must be airing on your TV when you record. Unless of course you want to view something that you have previously recorded on sky plus.
The sky plus also has fast forward, rewind, pause and stop buttons. So when you are watching a recorded programme you can fast forward through the breaks. I love this aspect of it as I hate watching a programme with ad breaks every five minutes. Also (and this is the best bit.) If you are watching something on live telly. That you have waited all day with anticipation for, only to settle down and be half way through when the phone rings, you can pause the live TV programme. How cool is that!! so now I never get to miss any of my favourite programmes.
If your going on holidays and you are gutted that you are going to miss coronation street for the next two weeks all you have to do is find corrie on your listings press the red R button to record and then press the green button which will basically series link and record all the coronation streets (or any other series) while your away.
When you first switch on your sky, you will notice that underneath where it states the categories for the programmes there will be a little green square with planner written by the side of it. If you press this button then you will be able to see a list of all the programmes you have recorded. Once you have watched any of the recorded programmes, you can then delete, by pressing the yellow button. thus freeing up more time to record something else.
It is quite a complicated system to explain. All I will say is I am not a technical whiz at all. Unyet within a couple of hours of having it fitted I knew exactly how to use it. It also comes with quite a large instruction manual, which you can read and refer back to any time your stuck.
I could not go without my sky plus box now I love it. As I have mentioned in previous reviews I suffer terribly with insomnia and therefore I will record programmes that I can then watch in the night. Also I love the x factor and strictly and I find it great that I can record one and then watch it later. So therefore I dont have to miss out on either of my two favourite programmes any more. To be totally honest I dont watch a lot of TV. I dont watch any of the soaps or dramas. I like real life programmes. However sky plus still gets used loads in my house. As I like the idea of being able to watch a programme when you have the time and notion to watch it.
I would certainly suggest to anyone who likes TV, to look into purchasing a sky plus box. It is easy, reliable and very convenient. One word of warning. Keep the remote from the kids otherwise If they are like mine, you will end up with hours of recorded sponge bob square pants!! enough to drive a sane woman to the brink I can tell you!!

Summary: my take on the sky plus system.
