Advantages: Choice of viewinf time, Always something to watch, Variety

Disadvantages: Not enough Widescreen - Yet, Bitrate on Sky Digital is below average.

Currently the only Widescreen content availalbe through the movie channels is the Sky Movies Widescreen - 1 part time channel.

Personally I think this is poor and recently decided to cancel my movie channels until they put more Widescreen output on.

BUT

Reports have been appearing in various publications that at the end of October Sky1 will start broadcasting in Widescreen and shortly after Sky Movies widescreen will be removed completely and widescreen movies will then be broadcast on all the movie channels.

If this is the case then it's about time in my opinion.

The movie channels are very good anyway but having a widescreen TV I want to see the movies in the format/aspect ratio they were filmed in and the way the director/producer intended it to be seen... not after it has had the sides chopped of or worse.
Although many other comments often say that the movie channels repeat too much but I feel this is a bad thing (to a point). It means for me that I can choose the day/time most convenient for me although with some films they do go a bit too far.

There may be some readers who read this that don't want films to be in widescreen as you currently have a standard 4:3 TV. I would recommend if you are a real film enthusiast to consider looking inot a Widescreen set (especially as they are now sensibly priced) as this genuinly is the way the films are shot. All film camera shoot on 16:9 or even wider (cinemascope - I forget the aspect ration of this), often this is because it suits the film. Also easier to watch as your eyes naturally see in a rectangle shape. When watching in 4:3 even though sky may be broadcasting it in 4:3 the sides are being chopped off before transmission so you are losing some of the picture. After now having a widescreen set for about 3 years I would never go back.

The intention for broadcasters is to switch completely to Widescreen over the next 5 years.

Sorry about the NU but there was very little information here. If you want more reads you should read other members work. That'll give you a better idea of what makes a VU opinion and get your name known, which will mean more people will probably have a look at your work. In the long run, it's better to write one VU opinion, than several SU's. ~Sharon
