Advantages: Great for live sports

Disadvantages: Costs a bit

Up until the end of last summer, we had Sky Sports as part of our Sky package, and although it was handy having it, I never really appreciated having it until we cancelled it as part of our subscription. Although I have sourced sports news from other sources and can find out results easily enough, the Skysports package does have exclusive rights to a lot of the major sports events we get in the UK.

For many people, the football is probably the most attractive feature of the channel, with a selection of matches being shown every now and then, the FA Cup, lower league fixtures, sports roundups and updates, and the Saturday programme that documents all the action as it happens every weekend.

Rugby is also shown all the time, and live games are frequently on at the weekends, as are internationals. I really missed the autumn internationals we have just had. Tennis is also shown, with live coverage of the Australian Open at the moment, and in particular Andy Murray's matches shown on Sky Sports 1. Test Match Cricket is also shown, and you can watch every single England match as well as various domestic cricket matches throughout the year.

There are also sports updates programmes on a regular basis, and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), which I confess to having had a penchant for since I was a kid. If you are a Sports fan, then Sky Sports 1 is an amazing channel, and it is quite easy to watch the chanel for a whole day and not get bored. If we decide to update our package again at all for any reason, or if finances dictate this is possible, then Sky Sports 1 is likely to be the first thing back on.

I highly recommend the Sky Sports package, but Sky Sports 1 in particular. The other two channels contain more update channels and lesser known/less popular or mainstream sports shows, but channel 1 is best for showing the lvie matches of the most popular sports. However, it is an expensive package, and will bump up the cost of your monthly package by about £15 if you get it. This is easily affordable on its own if you don't really have any other outgoings, but it's a non essential, and Sky have experienced many cancellations of these channels. Although as soon as I can afford it, I'm back on the Sky Sports trail. Until then, I'll keep badgering my mates who have it!

Summary: Good sports package

Its production values are becoming increasingly nauseating - it's like watching US channels CNN and Fox.
