Advantages: Some Good Programmes, Soccer Saturday

Disadvantages: Spanish football, The understanding of some pundits

Sky Sports 1 are one the best TV channels I have ever come across. They offer over a hundred football matches per season, including great FA Cup and Premiership action, as well as very boooring Spanish football. You can get Sky Sports if you have Sky Digital or ITV Digital, as well as other cable services. Other, than football, Sjy Sports also offers a lot of Cricket action. On most of the football matches commentary is provided by the very experienced Andy Gray and Martin Tyler, one of the best partnerships around. Soon you will be able to view the premiership season again with a service called Premiership Plus, a service allowing you to view even more Premiership football matches. Why didn’t they bring this out earlier?

Most Monday nights are dominated by a top Premiership football and in the latter part of last season Sky were bringing some matches to Saturday morning, to disrupt the calendar even more, but bring some fantastic matches to our TV. Sky has had few rivals. Since the beginning of the Premiership started in 1992, but that could change dramatically for the Nation wide action they broadcast, as ITV digital have recently released the ITV sport channel, supplying Nationwide action in certain regions of the UK depending on the area of the Football club, for example, if Norwich City played Portsmouth, the action would be broadcasted on Anglia Television and Meridian.

Sky Sports are always bringing big name faces to our screens to provide their opinions on how they see the game, such as Keeny Dalglish, who you can hardly understand, Alan Shearer,(not much better) Graeme Souness, Steve Bruce, and of course, Andy Gray.

Sky Sports have a programme called Gillette Soccer Saturday, and also called Gillette Soccer Special if on a midweek. Soccer Saturday is a match preview and review programme starting on 12:00 and ending at 6:00. Pundits such as Frank McClintock, Rodney Marsh and George Best give their views, stating whether they
think Leeds will beet Southampton or whether Fulham will beet Newcastle. As the games are in progress, these pundits talk live about the game and it’s important action, instead of just showing us the action, they had to get these people to talk about what they think. Rodney Marsh is my favourite as he speaks the most clearly and is a very interesting, funny guy! After the game they show us important action from the Nationwide League but that is about it. I think these broadcasting laws will soon be changed.

Soccer Special is a very similar programme but the presenter and some pundits are different, and the games are in midweek.

On Saturdays Soccer Saturday is broadcasted after Soccer AM, a very informal programme with some great interviews and funny features, a must for any true football fan
